Avail Medical Europe Healthcare Business Acquisition by Toffeln | Deal Summary
We facilitated the sale of a healthcare supplier to a foot care specialist… Meet our client: Avail Medical Europe Ltd, whose mission is to ‘develop technologies that bring the world’s clinical expertise to every procedure room for the benefit of the patient’. Avail was established in 1995 in County Durham by Michael Darrah. Seeking a well-earned retirement, Michael sought the help of Knightsbridge, who entrusted Commercial Executive Helen Bainbridge to handle deal negotiations. “Avail supplies surgical equipment and related accessories, such as bipolar forceps and active electrodes, from leading brands”, explained Helen. “It supplies to a wide range of NHS and private hospitals and clinics, and has secured national contracts to supply to well-known private healthcare organisations.” Discussing some of the finer selling points, Helen commented: “Avail boasts a turnover of £404,000 with an adjusted EBITDA of £153,000. “It currently works with 150 active clients, all of whom provide reliable, repeat business. It benefits from several strong, long-standing relationships, some of which span over 25 years.” Knightsbridge conducted three rounds of research to identify the perfect buyer, amounting to 81 interested parties, and held 26 meetings. The ultimate bid came from Charles Leflaive of Toffeln, a footwear designer for healthcare specialists, whose products aim to enhance foot wellbeing. It is based in Bristol and was established in 1978. Helen shared that she “developed an excellent relationship with Michael and Charles, as they did with each other, largely due to Michael being willing to provide a handover period as an active Director.” We wish the very best of retirements to Michael, and good fortune to Charles in managing the two companies.
